Science and Engineer Importance to Singapore

Singapore has boosted its water supply through water-recycling and also increased its land area by reclaiming land, all feats accomplished by engineers. And engineering will continue to be important for Singapore's future, as the country works towards becoming a smart nation and overcoming its lack of resources

#Happy To Be Back At Nanyang Auditorium for NTU Homecoming 2026

NTU Homecoming 2026

Walking across NTU campus brought back a rush of memories. From late-night lab runs to the long hours spent aligning laser, refining optical fiber sensor research during my PhD days. Attending our EEE workshop in the cozy LT8 was a nostalgic experience—NTU EEE alumni will surely remember the massive cohort sizes back in LT26, LT27, and LKC (406-1010 pax)!

What stood out most wasn’t just how much the campus infrastructure has evolved (like upcoming Jurong Region Line), but the #vibrant energy of the student helpers and newly minted professors. Catching up with fellow alumni and hearing alumni researchers share their real-world impact was a #powerful reminder:

✅ Strong academic roots combined with active industry-governance bridges are what keep our local tech ecosystem thriving. #PhysicalAI

Quick reflections
πŸ“Œ Fundamentals Endure: Tech stacks change fast, but solid scientific rigor never goes out of style.
πŸ“Œ Bridging Theory and Practice: Groundbreaking research only reaches its full potential when translated into real-world engineering solutions. Good job DSO πŸ‘πŸ»
πŸ“Œ Community Takes Time: Real professional networks aren’t built in a single event. They’re sustained across years of showing up at homecoming.

NTU is where my foundation in engineering was built, but coming back is always about the people and the ongoing journey of giving back. Grateful for where the journey started, and excited to continue supporting the next generation of builders. πŸš€

πŸ“£ Good to be home! 🦁✨

Grateful to the Chapter for the Recognition πŸ™

In volunteer leadership, service is a practice, not merely a position

SINGAPORE—At the end of June, the Extraordinary General Meeting marks a shift in my role with PMI Singapore Chapter. #ICYDK it’s a registered professional society in Singapore. I’m still part of the team 🀝, just in a new capacity contributing in a different way. πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬

What members see on the surface, events, PDUs, announcements, is only part of the story. Behind the scenes 🎭, service means showing up consistently, even when no one is watching πŸ‘€. It means choosing to stay committed when the work is quiet, uncelebrated, or slow.

If the past year has taught me anything, it’s that the most impactful work often happens off the agenda. The mentorship that starts with one casual question. The connection that forms over kopi (coffee) ☕. The idea that emerges when someone feels heard. πŸ’‘πŸ’

πŸ™πŸΌ To Mr. Frankie Shuai, our outgoing Chapter President (term 2025-2026). Thank you for your leadership and mentorship. You held the center when things shifted. You showed us that authority is quiet.

πŸ™πŸΌ To my fellow ExCo officers and members who stood for election and were elected once more (term 2026-2028): You have carried the load when it was heavy. You have all served without fanfare. If members value steady hands over loud voices, you deserve their consideration. Continuity matters. A special shoutout to Ms. Ying Jun Leng for her invaluable support.

πŸ™πŸΌ Thank you to the members, student members, volunteers, partners, and guest speakers who made this journey meaningful, especially those who stayed when it was hard, and who listened when it was easier to speak.

❤️❤️ A huge thank you to all the 400+ chapter members who voted for me in the ExCo election — not once, but twice. Each time with 96% approval:
✅ 30 May 2026
✅ 30 June 2026

Thank you 400—The volunteering work continues. Just in a new rhythm. πŸ“ˆ

SINGAPORE—Last week I was at an IEEE conference in a different capacity at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) — Session Moderator at the 6th IEEE International Conference on Human-Machine Systems. πŸ’»

πŸ’¬ Moderating isn’t just cue cards and timing; it’s about #creating space for honest exchange, nudging conversations toward action, and catching the one sentence that changes the room. ✨ The three sessions delivered sharp ideas, #generous questions, and a real sense of people listening to one another, exactly why I enjoy convening conversations on AI #governance, trust, and responsible AI, airspace #management and hybrid intelligence, and human‑AI #education. πŸ€–πŸ“š

Among a strong line‑up of speakers for the three-day event, I also had the chance to sit down with keynote speaker Associate Professor John Dong, Nanyang Business School (NBS) as he unpacked his research on AI compliance and its tangible effects on industry practice and impact on people. πŸ’‘ His examples turned abstract frameworks into immediate, practical questions for practitioners. πŸ“ˆ

Left with fresh perspectives and practical takeaways.

πŸ™ Big thanks to all the speakers for their rigor, to the audience for pushing the discussion beyond the slides, and to the organisers for #trusting me with the chair. πŸ™ Special thanks to IEEE Young Professionals Singapore and IEEE Singapore Section for the opportunity.

⭐⭐⭐ A truly rewarding three days of learning, connecting, and exploring the future of human-machine systems. The future of responsible AI and hybrid intelligence is moving fast, and it is clear that bridging academia and industry is how we ensure it benefits everyone. πŸš€πŸ€
