SINGAPORE—For two decades, IEEEXtreme has pushed student coders to their limits across 24 continuous hours of problem-solving. Every year, thousands of student members worldwide come together to solve complex algorithmic problems under tight time constraints. ☝️ But a global event of this scale only works because of the bridges built between students, academic proctors, and professional volunteers.

As we gear up for IEEEXtreme 20.0, we are rallying two key groups:
1️⃣ Student Competitors: IEEE Student Members ready to collaborate, tackle complex data structures, and compete on a worldwide stage.
2️⃣ Proctors: IEEE Member, Associate, Senior, Fellow and Life member stepping up as official proctors to supervise, mentor, and validate local student teams.

💡 Campus Experience: While IEEEXtreme is a virtual competition, teams are encouraged to gather physically on campus, turning a virtual challenge into a high-energy, memorable university hackathon experience.

SINGAPORE — I spent an incredibly insightful day at the MDPI Singapore’s Engineering Editors’ Salon, surrounded by a room comprised entirely of the Editorial Board Members, Guest Editors and academic leaders. ⚜️🌟

💡 With the day’s themes centered around responsible AI governance and AI in publishing ✍️, it was a true privilege to delve into these critical conversations alongside established engineering professors from local research ecosystem like from National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

As generative AI continues to reshape academia, establishing robust governance frameworks is no longer optional. It is a necessity! We had an engaging, multi-faceted discussions/presentations tracking the full lifecycle of AI integration in scientific publishing:

✅ Authorship & Manuscript Writing: Setting clear ethical boundaries for how researchers utilize AI as a collaborative tool without compromising academic integrity or original contribution.

✅ Peer Review Process: Reaffirming that peer review relies on the authentic knowledge and subject-matter expertise of human reviewers; manuscripts must never be uploaded into generative AI tools to strictly preserve author confidentiality and data privacy.

✅ Editorial Decision-Making: Defining the human-in-the-loop safeguards required to ensure AI remains a supportive analytical tool, rather than the final arbitrator of acceptance.

💭 Engaging with Singapore’s leading academic gatekeepers on these pivotal challenges was both humbling and deeply motivating. A huge thank you to the organizers, MDPI Singapore, for creating a space for such timely dialogue, and to the keynote speakers and distinguished professors for sharing their profound insights on how AI impacts scientific publishing. 🤝

#Happy To Be Back At Nanyang Auditorium for NTU Homecoming 2026

⭐ NTU Homecoming 2026

Walking across NTU campus brought back a rush of memories. From late-night lab runs to the long hours spent aligning laser, refining optical fiber sensor research during my PhD days. Attending our EEE workshop in the cozy LT8 was a nostalgic experience—NTU EEE alumni will surely remember the massive cohort sizes back in LT26, LT27, and LKC (406-1010 pax)!

What stood out most wasn’t just how much the campus infrastructure has evolved (like upcoming Jurong Region Line), but the #vibrant energy of the student helpers and newly minted professors. Catching up with fellow alumni and hearing alumni researchers share their real-world impact was a #powerful reminder:

✅ Strong academic roots combined with active industry-governance bridges are what keep our local tech ecosystem thriving. #PhysicalAI

📌 Fundamentals Endure: Tech stacks change fast, but solid scientific rigor never goes out of style.

📌 Community Takes Time: Real professional networks aren’t built in a single event. They’re sustained across years of showing up at homecoming.

NTU is where my foundation in engineering was built, but coming back is always about the people and the ongoing journey of giving back. Grateful for where the journey started, and excited to continue supporting the next generation of builders. 🚀
